What to bring
Your child should have a suitable bike with functioning brakes (not back-pedal!), handlebar grips that cover the exposed bar-ends, dirt-specific tyres with a decent amount of tread and a seat height that allows the child to touch the ground with both feet.
Safety equipment is critical - please ensure your child has a well-fitted helmet that meets Australian standards. We recommend safety glasses or sunglasses, and please bring a water bottle. Additional protective gear such as gloves, knee pads etc is not necessary but recommended.
See the parent information sheet here and below for full details.
How to join
For trail access, insurance and public liability reasons each rider must have a current MTBA (Mountain Bike Australia) membership and a Cape Mountain Bikers membership. You can sign your child up for both memberships simultaneously for a total cost of $49 (for recreational riding) or $49/$102 depending on age group (for racing memberships) per year. Just go to mtba.asn.au/membership/ and nominate Cape Mountain Bikers as your club during the application process (MTBA also offers 8 week free trial memberships - check their site for details).
Once you have your child's MTBA membership number, please complete the online Grassroots Registration Form. Cost is $60 per child per term - payment can be made as per the payment methods specified on the enrolment form. Parents and volunteers are welcome to come along for free - all we ask is that you have a valid MTBA and CMB membership.
